Bio
I love this. This is what I do." Music has always been a part of Redd's life; and so has struggle. Born a biracial child in a single parent household, Redd came out fighting. Without a father, siblings or much of any family she learned early on that she had to be extra strong to survive, and that battles never cease. She still holds that philosophy. With a family of two the boisterous sounds many are used to were not frequently heard in her home. However, the sounds of R&B and Hip Hop were a constant, as her mother spent most of her non working hours listening to albums. Early on Redd was duplicating the sounds her mother played on her own tape player, convinced one day she would make music like that. A pregnancy in junior high added a revision to those goals. Emancipation gave her needed freedom to raise her son and run her own household but unfortunately, although mature for her age, she was not ready to have that much responsibility /freedom before she could even legally drive. Aside from still performing at local Hip-Hop shows everything was now totally different in her life; different friends and even a different zip code.

Becoming a cliché Redd found a much needed come up in the streets. After moving to Southside Homes she found a new group of friends (family) and a new way to make needed money. After awhile in that lifestyle Redd realized she wanted something better for herself and her son. She went to CPCC and tested and passed her GED without any effort. Always a reader even after dropping out of school, scholastics was never a problem for her. Unfortunately, walking away from her current lifestyle was. GED or no GED, junior high drop outs were not in high demand in the work force. Returning to the block from a no win day of job hunting she placed her GED in the back of her notebook and got ready for a show that night. Between raising her son, performing no paying shows and trying to keep some money in her pocket Redd knew something had to give.

A forced hiatus gave Redd the push she needed to get right. Returning home with a ton of new material and a hunger to get back performing she returned to the studio. After bouncing through a few camps that went nowhere, Redd became a free agent blazing local mixtapes /CDs. Redd was most recently featured on Majahs 2003 album "If I had a bird". Enjoying the opportunity to work with some of the hottest talent in the QC and surrounding areas Redd still wanted "a home".

"A camp is family. I wanted to be somewhere where I could grow and round my sound. I have many folk in the game
and love working with different people but an artist must have a home team to grow."

After a 2004 appearance on Power 98's Freestyle Friday, Redd received a call from LyfeLong, Co-CEO of the charlotte independent label Carolina Bread Records. A meeting was set up between LyfeLong, Bettie Grind and Redd. The rest as they say is history.

"I knew those bread boys from their frequent appearances on Freestyle Friday and the numerous mix tapes they dropped. Everything
they dropped was heat. We had performed at a show together in 2001 but we didn't know each other at that time. All of us stay with a lot of irons in the fire, so when we sat down and laid it all out we were just like' why did we wait almost 4 yrs to make this happen !?!"

Look for big things from Redd in 2004. The Redd One has entered the building.
